Overview

This campaign is to urge the United States Congress to sign into law Juneteenth as a National Day of Observance like Flag Day. For over 40 years, Opal Lee, who is 92 years old, has worked locally to promote Juneteenth Independence Day in Fort Worth, Texas. After several letters and petitions, she took the campaign to the people in 2016 on a national level through “Opal’s Walk 2 DC”. Three years later, she is relaunching her walking campaign to bring attention to the support for the making of a national holiday. 2020 she hopes will see the adoption of legislation that will unify our nation. Her goal is to garner 100,000 signatures before 4Q2019. Download Sponsor Package Here

Letter to Pastors

Dear Pastoral Friends I need your support and the support of your parishioners for my Walk to DC.” This campaign is to urge the United States Congress to sign into law Juneteenth as a National Day of Observance like Flag Day. For over 40 years, I’ve worked to promote Juneteenth as not just a Freedom Day for African Americans, but as a unifying event of mutual understanding in Fort Worth, Texas because “None of us are free until we’re all free.” Download Full Letter Here
